Warehouse Duties: President
About 20 years ago I took a good long look at myself and I really tried to evaluate my future career path. On the short list of jobs I was interested in were race car driver, brain surgeon, pro athlete, double not spy, international playboy and the forgotten heir to the throne of a small, very rich country. The majority of these were crossed off the list after a thorough evaluation of my talents and the fact that a couple guys had already snuck in and stolen the jobs. When I dug deeper I realized my greatest talent was effectively communicating. I was great at getting my point across, could win almost any argument and wasn’t afraid of rejection. I was always looking for a new challenge.
I began my career as a sales associate and was promoted in a matter of months to a regional manager position of a multibillion dollar switch manufacturer, (C&K Switch), who at the time was the largest company of its kind, distributing switches to every continent on the planet. I was managing a six state territory with annual sales over four million dollars, dealing directly with small business owners, distributers, and multiple national accounts including Honeywell, ADT, Brinks, and many others. The territory was growing rapidly and so were the travel demands and I found myself on the road three weeks out of the month. When my wife and I decided to start a family, I knew I needed to be home more and began to search for a new challenge that would keep me in my own bed at night. I began a new chapter as General Manager of a Van Tuyle company where I was directly responsible for sales increases of more than 100 percent in fewer than three years. I was quickly recognized as one of the top 10 managers in the country out of a group of 3,000, and was able to keep this distinction for several years, recognized as a leader in every measurable category. Sounds great right? It was, but when our second bundle of joy arrived, just sleeping at home wasn’t good enough anymore. My baby boy was getting ready for his first soccer game and I had to work. There had to be something better. I wanted to be at every game, every play, and every special event that only happens once, so the search began…..and I stumbled across the world of Intellectual Property.
This is when I realized that I had left a dream job off the list. Brokering IP has become a passion. I love being around creative people and watching an idea transform into reality right in front of my eyes. I have been involved in many IP transactions. I have sold it, licensed it, built companies around IP and have even helped raised venture capital for the same cause. I have attended seminars, watched it on T.V., participated in contests, seen IP break bank accounts and spirits, and have seen patents make people rich. In short, I have brokered IP in about every way imaginable.
The beauty of IP is that there is no limit to it, what you have is new and unique and is a brand new opportunity just waiting to be discovered. I also realize that the creation of IP is only the first baby step in commercializing it, and I’m ready to hold your idea’s hand during this process. I’ll be at your idea’s first soccer game.
I have hand-picked a star-studded crew to help me and I hope you will let us give your idea a chance. Give us the opportunity to make the most out of this new adventure, to make your dream a reality while we do the same with ours.
